India-Canada Relations: After a long time, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has shown a soft attitude towards India. Trudeau has said that the re-election of Narendra Modi in India gives them an opportunity to discuss many ‘serious and big’ issues. Trudeau spoke to CBC News on the eve of the anniversary of the murder of Khalistan supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Trudeau told CBC News, “Now that the elections in India are over, I think there is an opportunity for us to talk. This includes some very serious issues related to national security and keeping Canadians safe and the rule of law.” Trudeau and Modi met recently during the G-7 summit held in Italy, where India was invited as an outreach partner.
Trudeau said, ‘I think the best thing about summits is that you get the opportunity to directly interact with different leaders who have different issues with you.’ He said, of course we have extensive and important economic relations with India. Trudeau said we have agreement on many major issues with India. However, on September 18 last year, Trudeau had made serious allegations against India in the House of Commons. During this, he had talked about killing Khalistani supporters through Indian agents.
Trudeau is adopting a soft stance
Justin Trudeau also adopted a soft tone during a press conference in Italy last Friday. When asked about the meeting in Italy, he did not say whether the Nijjar case or the issue of alleged foreign interference by India in Canada was raised. He said, “We need to continue to talk with various partners around the world.” In India Narendra Modi The Prime Minister’s Office of Canada congratulated him on his re-election.
Trudeau attended the G20
Apart from this, Justin Trudeau himself attended the G20 summit held in New Delhi in September last year. It was later revealed that Trudeau had raised the issue of Nijjar’s murder during that conversation.
